 | River Cottages offers you a choice of three spacious 17th-century farmhouses with stunning views of the River Vienne in the Confolens area of the Charente, the sunniest region in the west of France. Great beaches, gentle countryside and the home of sunflowers and cognac. The houses are set in one acre of land with swimming pool. When these houses were first occupied the world was a very different place: Shakespeare was still penning his plays, Galileo was called before the Spanish Inquisition, the eight-year-old Louis had just been crowned King Louis XIII of France and the French Revolution would not take place for another 200 years. But some things don't change. |
| The unobstructed view of the River Vienne across the fields is still the same now as it was then. The farmhouses have been restored to reflect the period in which they were built, but with the added luxury of today's home comforts. Two of the farmhouses sleep six people (two double bedrooms and one twin room) and the third sleeps four people (one double and one twin bedroom). Sofa beds in the living rooms offer the possibility for two further guests. A cot and highchair are also available for rental. Situated in the Charente-Limousine, the area is ideally placed between the Atlantic coast and the forested mountains of the Limousin, and within easy reach of Poitiers, Limoges and Angouleme. |  |
