The renowned southern coast of Brittany provides beaches to suit every taste - the great stretches of flat unbroken sands along the Quiberon peninsula complete with sand yachts, the many intimate bays between rocky headlands, the popular sandy beaches of Carnac or the beautiful island dotted Golfe du Morbihan. For those seeking less energetic pursuits architectural, historical and archaeological wonders abound in Brittany all within a reasonable driving distance. The historical towns of Josselin, Vannes, and Auray, the megaliths and dolmens of Carnac, the walled city of Concarneau, the artist’s haunt of Pont-Aven and a multitude of ancient churches and chapels.

Absorb the atmosphere of Brittany; its culture, pardons, fetes and Celtic traditions. The best of French provincial cooking, crepes, ciders and wines. Picturesque fishing ports, the lush rolling farmland, the quiet interior with its un-crowded lanes and roads far away from the hurly-burly. St.Fiacre is a small hamlet of just nine, mainly traditional, stone cottages set in farmland at the edge of woodland. Within the hamlet are a XVth century chapel and a bronze-age tumulus.

Only 2 km away is Melrand a typical Breton town with good local facilities - bakers, butchers, restaurant and garage – on the outskirts is an interesting museum of medieval farming. The regional centre of Pontivy is 15 km distant and provides more comprehensive shopping and eating facilities. Once the city was Napoleon’s headquarters and today there are fascinating contrasts between Napoleon’s grid-iron street layout and the narrow winding medieval streets. The town is the seat of the Rohan family and contains an impressive chateau set close to the River Blavet.
The Blavet itself provides many opportunities for outside pursuits - from the nearby centre of St.Nicolas des Eaux canoes may be hired and site-seeing trips in canal boats are available in the summer months. The well-maintained towpaths running along the heavily wooded valley sides provide ideal locations for walking, cycling, riding bird watching and fishing - the Blavet provides an excellent fishing location.
