Leisure

There are a number of villages and towns within easy driving distance providing fresh produce, markets and sporting facilities. The surrounding countryside provides excellent scenery and a thriving array of wildlife to enjoy whilst taking a leisurely walk along quiet roads and country paths. There are also quite a few leisure/picnic areas dotted along the river Charente. Further afield the Poitou - Charentes offers a host of interesting places to visit. To mention just a few.

Closer to home apart from all of the sports facilities there are local fishing spots open air swimming pools, a lake with beach area, pedaloes and deer park at Chateau Garnier and Local shopping is apptox five miles at Charrou and six miles at Civray and Savigné

Poitiers
Is just 50 minutes away with the wonderful futuristic adventure park of "FUTUROSCOPE" on the northern side, about 15 minutes further on. This is a major attraction for the area and is the only one of its kind in Europe. This is a must and needs at least a full day preferably 2 or 3 in order to see and experience all of the attractions which will be thoroughly enjoyed by young and old alike. Futuroscope is advertised as a theme park but is nothing like Disneyland. It is based on science.
Poitiers is a very large town with very good shopping facilities.

La Rochelle
Is about 2 hours away.
A beautiful old port with all its superb seafood restaurants, promenades and cafes, the aquarium and a wonderful shopping centre. With sea excursions during the season it is well worth a day out.

Aurador sur Glane
About 1 hour away. This village was destroyed by the Germans and all of the inhabitants massacred. Everything has been left as it was, and now over 50 years on provides a step back in time. It is easy to imagine the events of that day, June 10th 1944.

Cognac

The brandy and pineau distilleries, well worth a visit if only for the free samples!

Royan

Less than 2 hrs away with a wonderful Sunday market (go early). Again the seafood restaurants, promenades and cafes, aquarium and great shopping centre.
