VILLA MARCELLE
Welcome to the Villa Marcelle. The purpose of this fact sheet is to give you information about the house and local area to make your stay in Tremolat enjoyable.
The Local Area. The local area has many attractions, not least the tranquillity of the countryside. Whatever your particular reason for visiting the Dordogne; the medieval towns, prehistoric sites, recreation facilities or for just the ability to walk and explore unspoiled countryside, you will find sufficient of each for a lifetime of visits. The brochures included in the information folder are just a few that have been trawled from the local tourist offices. If you find any additional brochures of a facility that you have enjoyed, please include them in the folder for other visitors. The restaurant cards that we have included are ones that we have enjoyed. There are many more – if you find others that you would recommend, please leave their cards in the folder.
Shops and Markets. Most essentials can be bought from the small shops in the village. There is a Bakers, General Store and Petrol Station. Larger stores, including supermarkets are in Le Bugue and the surrounding towns. The two main supermarkets in Le Bugue are both down the same street. When entering the town from the Ste Alvere direction, turn right over the bridge, across the River Vezere and they are both on the right, a few hundred yards from the bridge. The Intermarche is also one of the best places to buy petrol and has a car wash. Remember that Monday is an "uncertain" day in France and you will find most shops closed, there is also a long lunch hour from midday until 2.00 p.m.
Markets – remember, they are only open in the morning.
Monday Ste Alvere – cheese, vegetables and local handicrafts.
Tuesday Le Bugue – very good fish, wine, cheese and local crafts.
Tremolat – small, but worth a trip down the hill.
Wednesday Bergerac – good market in the Cathedral area and also lots of good
shops and restaurants.
Thursday Lalinde – good market – the barbecued chicken and quails are really
tasty, but you need to get there early as they always sell out. Good
for fresh trout and there is usually a Pizza Van.
Friday Le Buisson – again, a good market with lots of choice of cheeses,
meats, cakes and wines.
Saturday Le Bugue again, with a small food market.
Barbeque. The barbeque is provided for your use. You will find it works better with charcoal bricks than raw charcoal
