For such a quiet area it is surprising just how much there is to do, let alone see. There are outdoor swimming pools at Thouars and Argenton chateau, which seems to be a favourite with people who have stayed, as well as at Montreuil Bellay - all within easy reach. Quite apart from the well known atractions, Loire Valley chateaux, Futuroscope, etc.keep an eye out for roadside notices for local fetes and events - wine and snail feasts, giant cassoulet fete, chestnuts and new wine fair in the autumn, old time farming demonstrations - this will give you much more idea of how local people enjoy themselves than the big attractions. |
. If you are keen on the water you can hire kayaks at MoulinBarnard at Massais five minutes drive away. They also offer rock climbing, either there of further upstream on the river Argentton at Grifferus on the granite rock faces.
| Riding is available at La Salle, just outside Thouars suitable for all abilities. A lovely day out for horse lovers is the Cadre Noir at Saumur. Fishing is available just 40 minutes away at Montcoutant or buys a permit and fish local rivers. There is even karting at European championship level and, so our visitors tell us reasonably inexpensive. Doue La Fontaine has a Zoo, which is superb; the most dedicated zoo hater can't fail to enjoy it with the animals free to roam safely within this enormous old quarry complex, separated from their human onlookers. The list of things to do goes on and on and we advise you to ask if you have a particular activity which your family wish to peruse and we will no doubt point you in the right direction. Just come and swallow up the beauty of the area relax and have fun. |
