Vraire
The house sleeps 8 - 10 people in four double bedrooms.
![]() | The sixteenth century farmhouse at Vraire forms the base of a U shaped set of buildings around a large private courtyard which is supposed to be all that remains of the stables of a long -vanished chateau. There is plenty of room for games for the children as well as sitting out on the tiled terrace. After years of being used for storage, the house was restored in 2000 to offer comfortable and spacious accommodation for 8 to 10 people within its metre thick walls. |
Vraire is a small hamlet amoung the vines, where the baker delivers every day, and the butcher and grocer once a week. Mme, Perrault, who lives next door and was the former owner owner, will ask them to call if you ask her. She and her husband are super neighbours, really helpful and kind, so don't worry about your French just go over, say Bonjour and enjoy their company
| There are three winemakers in the hamlet; Domaine de la Victorie, M.Martin down the road and M.Pasquet, whose back enteraance is just opposite the enterance to the courtyard; all aare very welcoming, so try the local wines on site - you don't have far to travel back with it. Five minutes drive in either direction takes you to the villages of Cersay or Bouille Loretz each with bars, corner shops, butchers, bakers and post offices. Thouars is about 15 minutes drive away, it is a local market town offering two big supermarkets; small market on Tuesday, main market on Friday mornings with super fish stalls. It is a welcoming hamlet where you can sunbathe quietly, walk the lanes, or subside with a book while the children play, but you are in easy reach of things to do and places to go. | ![]() |
